Guangxi promotes cultural tourism in Tokyo

A cultural tourism promotion fair was held by the government of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in Tokyo, Japan on Sept 26. Around 200 officials and representatives from Japanese travel agencies and media attended.

The fair showcased Guangxi's tourist attractions and distinctive culture, including its natural scenery, history, folk art, and local delicacies.

A variety of activities were held, including airings of promotional videos, folk performances, and quiz games.

Distinct Guangxi products were displayed at the fair, including Zhuang brocades, dried mangos, momordica grosvenori (also called Luo Han Guo, a type of fruit grown primarily in Guangxi), luosifen (rice noodles boiled with snail soup), and Zhuang cultural and creative products.

Hu Jingbo, deputy director-general of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said that Japan and China are both geographically and culturally close to one another. The two countries have maintained close communications and cooperation in many fields including economics and trade, culture, education, and tourism.

Japan is a major source of tourists for Guangxi. In the first half of 2019, Guangxi received a total of 1.32 million overseas tourists, 37,000 of which were from Japan, up 5 percent year-on-year.
